QVF Software Version 2.5 Released - The newest version of QVF software was release on Thursday, September 9. The new version of software contains valuable enhancements and important software adjustments that will allow your election day to progress smoothly. Some of this version's highlights are listed in the following paragraphs.
A significant addition in version 2.5 is the Electronic Precinct List. This new module allows the user to create an independent application that can be exported from the QVF, and then loaded onto PCs stationed at your precinct. This module provides the functionality of a paper precinct list, along with an enhanced search capability. Features will allow precinct officials to key or scan voter names when they appear to vote. The Electronic Precinct List also tracks voter history and allows the fast and easy export of that history into the QVF (replacing the scanning of precinct lists to input voter history after the election). The module also gives precinct workers the ability to find "out-of-precinct" voters when they appear at the wrong precinct, providing the correct precinct information so they can be directed to the proper polling location. This module is optional. t is not a replacement for paper precinct lists at this time. In order to use it in a precinct you will need to provide a standard Windows based PC or laptop. If your jurisdiction is interested in using this module, please contact the QVF helpdesk for more information. We have tested several scanning devices that can be used with the module to read bar codes on driver licenses. We would be happy to share this information with you. Also new to version 2.5 is the capability to create a precinct list with a peel and stick voter name. This can be a time saving feature, that will allow precinct workers the ability to peel the name of a voter from the precinct list and adhere it in the poll book. In order to take full advantage of this feature, you will need to purchase specially cut label paper from your preferred vendor. We can provide specifications to your vendor. This is an optional feature. You can continue to print precinct lists as you always have. Please note that there is a new section on the Precinct List screen entitled "User Defined Fields." This section will allow you to print the split indicator and/or the school district name on the precinct list. As an alternative, you can print the voters' names a second time on the peel section of the precinct list. If you have questions, please contact the QVF helpdesk.
Users will also notice that the Voter Search has been adjusted to allow for Exact Match Searches on the Last Name and Street Name fields. This feature limits your search results to include only the results that exactly matched your search criteria. The search capability has been modified to include the SSN4 as a searchable field.
Users will also notice the AV module now allows the user to perform operations on MVIP voters ONLY after viewing an appropriate warning message.
A complete list of the version 2.5 enhancements can be found under Help, then Release Notes in the QVF main menu.
Software Update Procedure –
- Make sure that all QVF software is closed (this includes client machines); your replication will fail and/or you could experience data loss if you miss this step!
- Establish a connection to the Internet. Most users will do this via a yellow telephone icon found on your desktop called
MichNet.
- Run the QVF Server Manager. This program icon is found on your desktop or under Start-> Programs-> Michigan
QVF.
- If you do not see the Michigan QVF folder under Start-> Programs, click on the small double arrow icon displayed at the bottom of your programs list to view the hidden folders.
- After running the QVF Server Manager, you will see a warning message display. After closing that message, start the update by clicking on the Update Server Now button.
- Expect this update to take 2-3 minutes longer than a typical replication. When you see the message stating your "Server has been updated successfully", click OK to complete the process.
