New QVF Software Version 2.8 Released; Software Update Procedure:
- Make sure that all QVF software is closed (this includes client machines); your replication will fail and/or you could experience data loss if you miss this step
- Establish a connection to the Internet. Most users will do this via a yellow telephone icon found on your desktop called MichNet.
- Run the QVF Server Manager. This program icon is found on your desktop or under Start-> Programs-> Michigan QVF.
- If you do not see the Michigan QVF folder under Start-> Programs, click on the small double arrow icon displayed at the bottom of your programs list to view the hidden folders.
- After running the QVF Server Manager, you will see a warning message display. Click OK to close that message.
- Click on the Update Server Now button to start the update.
- When you see the message stating your "Server has been updated successfully", click OK to complete the process.
Expect this update to take five minutes longer than a typical replication.
QVF Software and Security Update Phase II – Today, Thursday, November 18: As all but one QVF site has upgraded to software version 2.7, the Department of State staff has proceeded with releasing QVF software 2.8. as planned. We appreciate the cooperation we have received this week. We are proceeding with the update at this time to complete implementation of significant new system security features and to provide several important software enhancements.
The new version contains updates to the Precinct and Polling Location module, the Mass AV Application module and the Clerk Lookup module. This update will take slightly longer than usual. Instructions on how to use the updated modules are posted on the website below:

Final Deployment Procedures
Thursday, November 18, 2004: Phase II - QVF version 2.8 release (Second Oracle Security Update and QVF Feature Update). This update will take longer than usual to complete, as a fairly large amount of data will be migrated. Users who enter polling location or clerk information without updating the software to version 2.8 will lose the data they enter.
We advise QVF users to carefully review both clerk information and polling location information immediately. While we made every effort to accurately transfer existing information to the new modules, any errors could result in incorrect information on voter ID cards.
It is vital that QVF users leave their computers turned on Thursday night so they will replicate automatically.
This update will have no affect on QVF users' ability to use the QVF system and complete the entry of voting history for the November 2 election. Users who follow the software update procedures will be able to get back to work immediately with minimal disruption.
Thank you for your cooperation. We have accomplished a great deal this week.
