Oracle
10g Upgrade Tomorrow: As announced in "News You Can Use" Issue 191, we have delayed
the release of QVF Software v2.13. In its place, our technical staff will begin
the process of updating the QVF Server in Lansing
to a new version of the Oracle Database Management System tomorrow (Thursday,
December 8). This upgrade will not affect the version of Oracle that your local
QVF Server is running, but requires that all sites successfully replicate their
data before noon tomorrow. Use the following as guidelines on how to prepare
today for the upgrade:
Try to complete a manual replication today before the
end of business.
If you don't need the QVF for the remainder of the
week, the QVF Server can be turned off.
If you need to use the QVF for voter lookups or if your
replication was not successful, the QVF server should be left on tonight
so it can automatically attempt to replicate tonight.
Please keep data entry to a minimum until after you
have successfully replicated on Monday.
Coming Next Week: The QVF Software Release has been rescheduled to
occur over the weekend of December 17th. This upgrade will still require careful coordination
and close cooperation between Bureau and Local staff. The upgrade times have
been estimated to require in some cases 12-15+ hours (sites with high-speed
internet typically can complete this process in 1-2 hours). This upgrade
requires that someone be available in your office to perform a replication on
the Friday before the upgrade and on the Monday following the upgrade. In some
cases, it may be required that Bureau staff visit your location to pick-up the
QVF Server; please inform staff of this possibility. For more details please
refer back to NYCU Issue 190, ** noting that the upgrade will occur one week
later than stated in that communication.
If your
site has considered upgrading to a high-speed internet connection for the QVF
Server in the past, this would be an excellent opportunity to pursue that
option before this upgrade commences December 17th. Please contact the QVF
Helpdesk before switching over to a high-speed connection for details.
