HOLIDAY CLOSING: The
Qualified Voter File Help Desk and the Bureau and the Bureau of Elections will
be closed in observance of Independence Day on Friday, July 2nd and Monday, July
5th.
PREVENTATIVE
MAINTANANCE: The QVF Program has two technicians who will be working
with the cities, counties and townships this summer. Josh Scheuer has been
with our technical staff for two years. Lauren Trimble joined our
technical staff in June. These two student technicians are working with
Eric Haas to provide preventative maintenance on the QVF computers. The
current QVF servers are aging. As we all know, hardware failures occur.
However, it is sometimes possible to detect a problem before the computer fails
completely. With the goal of ensuring, to the largest degree possible, an
election season free of QVF remote server failures, our technicians are making
site visits to QVF jurisdictions. QVF site visits will focus
on:
Checking for failed cooling fans,
which can lead to overheating and subsequent hardware failures.
Updating the Windows operating system
with the latest “patch” releases.
Examining event logs on the computers
for signs of developing problems such as hard drive
failure.
Additionally, Lauren, Eric or Josh may
be phoning the more geographically remote sites and asking these jurisdictions
to help them check their computers for potential hardware/software
failures. Our goal is to check as many sites as possible before the August
Primary Election. We appreciate your cooperation and assistance.
You are welcome to call the QVF helpdesk
if you need to verify the identity or credentials of anyone that calls on our
behalf to perform system maintainance on the QVF systems. The helpdesk
will also handle all follow-up questions. You may reach us at
1-800-310-5697.
