?NEWS YOU CAN USE"
New
AutoMARK Pre-election Test Procedures: We are pleased to announce the release of a new AutoMARK
Pre-election Test Procedures manual. The new procedures are designed to
improve the efficiency of the pre-election testing process via a 2-step
process. Step 1 is designed to verify the functionality of all touch
screen and keypad functions while Step 2 is designed to verify the accuracy of
the programming that will be used on election day. In addition, since the
AutoMARK is not a ballot counting device, the testing of this equipment at a
public accuracy test is not required. (Clerks may include a
demonstration of the AutoMARK at the public accuracy test at their
discretion.)
Attached to the new test procedures is a newly designed
AutoMARK Preparation Checklist and Test Certification form. Located at the
top of the form is a preparation checklist that provides a list of tasks that
must be completed prior to each election to ensure that the equipment is ready
for use. The bottom of the form is designed to document the conduct of the
preliminary accuracy test.
The new
test procedures are currently being distributed and reviewed at workshops
throughout the State. The procedures are also available on the Department
of State website at www.michigan.gov/sos. Click on the
?Elections in Michigan" tab (left hand side) then click on
the ?Accessible Voting System" icon.
AutoMARK Troubleshooting
Guides: Along with each AutoMARK terminal, jurisdictions
should have received two documents on CD that contain instructions for
troubleshooting various hardware and software related issues as well as a list
of error messages, explanations and solutions. These documents have been
reformatted and are also now available at the website address provided
above.
Please do not hesitate to contact
the Bureau of Elections at 1-800-292-5973 if you have any
questions.
