Update
On Partial Shutdown of State Government: It
is possible that the
Bureau of Elections will be closed on Monday, October 1, 2007.
At
4 p.m. yesterday, Governor Granholm issued an executive directive to her
cabinet instructing them to begin taking the steps necessary to shut down all
non-essential state government operations at midnight this Sunday, September
30, when the new fiscal year begins.
According
to the state Constitution, without a balanced budget in place, state
government cannot operate. We remain hopeful that productive
negotiations already underway will head off this government shutdown before
Monday.
Michigan
state employees have been directed not to report to work on Monday, October 1,
2007, unless otherwise notified. We will continue to monitor this
situation over the week-end.
At
this point all Bureau sponsored training programs scheduled for next week, are
moving forward as planned. If it becomes necessary to reschedule any
of these programs, you will be notified. We apologize for any
inconvenience that may cause.
