In preparation for the 2008 election cycle, it is recommended that you verify the size of the absent voter ballot envelopes purchased for use.  Envelopes should not exceed 6 1/8 inches x 11 1/2 inches - the maximum envelope size for first class and standard piece mail.  Postage for envelopes that exceed these dimensions (even by a fraction of an inch) is based on a ?flat size rate" which is substantially higher than the usual letter size rates. 

Example:

·    1 oz. letter size rate (maximum size - 6 1/8 inches x 11 1/2 inches) = $.41 cents for first class single rate piece.

 ·    1 oz. flat size rate (maximum size is 12 inches x 15 inches) = $.80 cents for first class single rate piece.
