Electronic Poll Book & Electronic Precinct
List: The Bureau of Elections
will release a pilot version of the new Electronic Poll Book & Precinct List
module for use in the August Primary. The Electronic Precinct List will allow
your election inspectors to locate voters on the precinct list and note the
issuance of a ballot quickly and easily. The Electronic Poll Book mode
includes all of the features of Electronic Precinct List plus many features of
the paper poll book. The Electronic Poll Book & Precinct List can be loaded
on a lap-top or personal computer with Windows 2000 or XP operating system,
and offers the following advantages:
-
Easy Identification of a voter:
A voter can be identified by bar code scan of
a Driver's License. (Michigan's Personal Identification cards (PID) cannot be
scanned at this time.) A voter may also be located by typing the voter name.
-
Easy and accurate updating of QVF voter
history:
Voter history from the Electronic Poll Book &
Precinct List can be automatically uploaded into QVF to update voter history.
-
Use of Stickers for Poll Book:
A "Dymo" label printing option is available
to produce a sticker with voter name to place in the paper poll book.
-
Automatic generation of voter list and
ballot summary:
The Electronic Poll Book automatically
generates a List of Voters with ballot serial numbers and remarks and also
maintains a running count of voted and spoiled ballots.
-
Accommodates "Line Chasing":
The Precinct List includes voter and polling
location information for all voters within the jurisdiction making it easier
to direct voters who are registered in a different precinct to their proper
polling location.
Pilot testing of the Electronic Poll Book &
Precinct List is scheduled for the August 5, 2008 Primary election. If you
wish to pilot the Electronic Poll Book for November election, you must pilot
it in the August Election. You may pilot the Electronic Precinct List in
either the August or November election. Please note that the pilot poll book
and/or precinct list must be used in conjunction with the existing precinct
list and poll book procedures.
Additional information will be provided later
this week. If you are interested in participating in the August Primary pilot
or have any questions, please contact Stuart Talsma at
talsmas@michigan.gov or 517-241-2547
no later than Monday, June 30, 2008 .
