Accreditation Workshops to be Conducted:
Under the
provisions of Michigan election law, MCL 168.31(j), the Secretary of State
is required to establish a curriculum for the comprehensive training and
accreditation of all new county, city, township and village clerks. MCL
168.31(k) further requires that all newly appointed or elected election
officials attend the training and obtain state accreditation within 6 months
of the first election that they are responsible for administering.
To fulfill this obligation,
the Michigan Department of State's Bureau of Elections administers the
Election Officials' Accreditation Program that is offered to new election
officials in January and June of each calendar year. There are three steps
to completing the accreditation program: 1) attend the two-day training
session offered by the Bureau of Elections 2) study the information
presented in the "Election Officials' Accreditation Study Guide" and 3)
complete and submit the "Self-Administered Accreditation Exam."
Day one of the training
session is designed to introduce new election officials to a wide variety of
topics related to the administration of elections including the following

Day two of the training
session is devoted to the administration of optical scan voting systems, the
preparation and use of the AutoMARK Voter Assist Terminal and the proper
sealing of ballot containers.
Program participants will be
provided with a copy of the "Election Officials' Accreditation Study Guide"
which is a comprehensive training manual on the administration of public
elections.
Accreditation
classes will begin on January 8, 2009. A complete list of training dates
and locations is provided below. All classes are from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. To
