Board of State Canvassers meeting Wednesday, December 7, 2005 (November 22 meeting cancelled)

YOU ARE HEREBY NOTIFIED THAT THE BOARD OF STATE CANVASSERS WILL CONDUCT A MEETING ON WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 7, 2005 AT 2:00 P.M. (REPLACES MEETING ORIGINALLY SCHEDULED FOR NOVEMBER 22) IN THE LAKE ONTARIO ROOM LOCATED ON THE 3RD FLOOR OF THE MICHIGAN LIBRARY AND HISTORICAL CENTER BUILDING, 702 WEST KALAMAZOO, LANSING, MICHIGAN.


Included on the Agenda will be:

  • Canvass and certification of the votes cast in Mecosta County and Osceola County on the "MOTA – Public Transportation Millage."
  • Consideration of initiative petition submitted for approval as to form by Citizens for Education, P.O. Box 2573, East Lansing, Michigan 48826-2573. (Petition would amend the State School Aid Act to ensure that the legislature establish and appropriate minimum funding levels for Michigan’s public elementary and secondary schools, intermediate school districts, community colleges, public universities and independent nonprofit colleges or universities.)
  • Consideration of initiative petition submitted for approval as to form by Protect the Rights of Property, P.O. Box 1336, Southgate, MI 48195. (Petition would amend the State Constitution to stipulate that the Constitution "shall not be construed to discriminate against or grant preferential treatment to citizens or private industry in the name of eminent domain or any other government process which seizes and/or distributes property….")
  • Consideration of initiative petition submitted for approval as to form by Citizens for Life, 4119 Thackin Drive, Lansing, MI 48911. (Petition would amend the State Constitution to add following language: "The right to due process, whereby no person shall be deprived of life, liberty, or property without due process of law, guaranteed in Article I, Section 17, and the right to equal protection of the law, guaranteed in Article I, Section 2, vest at conception. A ‘person,’ for purposes of the Constitution and laws of the State of Michigan, exists from the moment of conception.")
  • Consideration of GEMS v1.18.24 Election Management System Software; AccuVote-OS Tabulator V1.96.6; and AccuVote-OS Tabulator v2.0.12 submitted by Diebold Election Systems, Inc. of McKinney, Texas for approval for use in Michigan.
  • Such other and further business as may be properly presented to the Board.

A person who wishes to address the Board on an agenda item at the time the item is being discussed must submit a written request to the Chairperson of the Board prior to the opening of the meeting. Persons addressing the Board are allotted three minutes.
