APRIL 21, 2006

Individuals interested in challenging the signatures collected during the Citizens for Education petition drive have until 5 p.m. on Friday, May 5 to review the signatures sampled from the petition.

Interested parties are asked to contact the Michigan Department of State’s Bureau of Elections to make arrangements to purchase or inspect copies of the petition sheets with the sampled signatures. The bureau is on the first floor of the Richard H. Austin Building, 430 W. Allegan, Lansing. Please call (517) 373-2540 for more information.

At its April 11 meeting, the Board of State Canvassers established that the public would have 10 business days to review and challenge the signatures from the time they are made available.

The Citizens for Education petition seeks to amend the State School Aid Act to establish minimum funding levels for schools, colleges and universities.

Additional information about the petition challenge is available on the department’s Web site at www.Michigan.gov/sos. Click on Elections in Michigan and then click on Board of State Canvassers.
