Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land encourages voters to participate in the Tuesday, May 2 election.
Elections are scheduled in each of the state’s 83 counties and will impact local school districts, district libraries, cities, townships, villages and counties.
"I urge my fellow citizens to strengthen our democracy by voting on May 2," said Land, the state’s chief election officer. "With improved technologies and better equipment, casting a ballot in Michigan continues to become an easier and more convenient process. Please set aside some time on Election Day to participate."
Land reminds residents that the online Michigan Voter Information Center is an excellent resource that can address many questions. The site, found at www.Michigan.gov/vote, helps visitors determine whether they are registered to vote, assists them in finding their local election officials and polling places, and provides information on a wide range of election topics.
The deadline to apply for an absentee ballot by mail is 2 p.m. Saturday, April 29. Residents who want to vote an absentee ballot in person must do so at their local clerk’s office by 4 p.m. on Monday, May 1.
This is the second year in which voters are casting ballots under Michigan’s consolidated election law. The law makes elections more efficient and cost-effective by limiting their number. It also helps voters plan to participate by allowing them to mark upcoming elections on their calendars. After May 2, the remaining consolidated elections this year are Aug. 8 and Nov. 7.
