Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land today announced that the Mobile Branch Office will be at Eastern Michigan University on Monday, Oct. 9 to help students register to vote.

The facility provides all services found at any Secretary of State branch office and is accessible to people with disabilities. It is hauled statewide on a 24-foot trailer.

The office will be on the north side of the Pray-Harrold Building. Mobile Branch Office hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

"The first step in making your voice heard is registering to vote," Land said. "I encourage students to take advantage of this opportunity by visiting the mobile office while it is on campus. It’s a convenient way to register, or to conduct other business with the Secretary of State."

Land also reminds residents to visit the online Michigan Voter Information Center, a single, comprehensive source designed for voter convenience at www.michigan.gov/vote. The site contains information on polling locations, voting systems, registration and candidates.

Following its visit to Ypsilanti, the Mobile Branch Office wraps up its 2006 college tour with a stop at the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor on Oct. 10, the last day to register to vote for the Nov. 7 election. It has logged over 100,000 miles since it first hit the road nearly nine years ago.

Land encourages all customers who have Internet access to check out the department’s online services at www.Michigan.gov/sos before visiting any branch office. For example, license plates and watercraft registrations can be renewed online. Browsing the site will help customers determine requirements before they go to an office.
