Secretary Land encourages everyone to be involved
OCTOBER 23, 2006
Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land today announced that branch offices in Detroit, Hamtramck and Highland Park will help promote the need for volunteers for Angels' Night on Oct. 29-31.
The campaign involves volunteers who patrol Detroit streets, turn on porch lights and keep an eye on neighborhoods to protect the city for the Halloween observance. The Department of State has assisted Detroit in promoting Angels' Night throughout Land's tenure.
"Our Detroit-area Secretary of State branch office employees welcome the opportunity to help protect the communities they live and work in every day," Land said. "Angels' Night is a perfect example of what local-state partnerships and community action can achieve. We're working together to keep Detroit safe this Halloween."
Branch offices will provide information for residents interested in learning about the campaign or volunteering. Residents can participate by adopting vacant buildings to help prevent arson, working with local churches to patrol neighborhoods and turning on porch lights to deter destructive behavior. Residents are encouraged to dial 9-1-1 to report anything irregular.
