Agency: Secretary of State

APRIL 24, 2007

Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land today announced two key appointments to her leadership team.

Dan McMaster of Owosso has been named director of external affairs. Robert Gatt of Novi is Land's Southeast Michigan liaison. Their duties include coordinating the Department of State's relations with constituents, organizations and local officials.

"Dan and Bob are outstanding additions to our dynamic, talented leadership team," Land said. "Dan is a respected veteran of the Capitol community who brings a broad base of skills and knowledge to this position. Bob's experience, energy and insights will ensure that Southeast Michigan's needs continue to receive the attention they deserve. Both men will contribute greatly to the continuing advancement of our customer-focused agenda. We're proud to welcome them to the department."

McMaster recently served as advocacy policy manager with the Michigan Bankers Association. Prior to that, he was in the Senate Majority Communications Office and also worked for various legislators.

He earned degrees from Central Michigan University and St. Catherine's College at Cambridge University in England. He also attended graduate school at Southwest Missouri State University.

Gatt previously worked for Oakland County's 6th Circuit Court and the county's Community Corrections office. He currently serves on the Novi Zoning Board of Appeals. A Detroit Catholic Central High School graduate, Gatt earned his degree from Lake Superior State University.
