Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land has been elected to the 11-member executive board of the National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS).

Land was nominated and elected to the board by other secretaries of state attending the NASS summer conference in Portland, Ore. in July. As Midwestern region vice president, she will help guide the association as it addresses issues involving election administration, business services, electronic government and state-federal relations with the White House, members of Congress and federal agencies.

"I am grateful for this opportunity to represent my fellow secretaries of state," Land said. "I look forward to working together through NASS to achieve our common goals, such as more efficient and effective government."

Earlier this year, NASS accepted Land's bid for Michigan to host the group's summer conference next year. The event is scheduled for the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel in Grand Rapids on July 24-28, 2008.

NASS was founded in 1904 and is the oldest nonpartisan professional association for state government officials in the United States. Indiana Secretary of State Todd Rokita is the organization's newly elected president.
