Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land presented Michigan Chronicle and Michigan FrontPage newspaper publisher Sam Logan with a commemorative license plate today in recognition of his designation as "Publisher of the Year" by the National Newspaper Publishers Association (NNPA).
"Sam Logan is a distinguished journalist who is devoted to strengthening his community and keeping citizens well informed on issues of relevance to urban America," Land said. "I salute him on achieving this prestigious national honor and for his outspoken civic leadership."
Land was in Wayne County to visit the Michigan State Fair and stopped by the Chronicle's downtown Detroit offices to commend Logan. She gave him a special plaque featuring a personalized Michigan license plate that reads: PUBL SHR.
Logan, of Detroit, was named Publisher of the Year at the NNPA's summer conference in Seattle on June 24. Along with the honor, he was given a trophy and the use of a 2008 Ford 500 sedan. The NNPA, also known as the Black Press of America, is a 67-year-old federation of more than 200 black community newspapers from across the United States.
