Agency: Secretary of State

JANUARY 28, 2008

Visitors to the 2008 Michigan International Auto Show in Grand Rapids can learn more about the services offered at Secretary of State branch offices, sign up as organ donors and have their questions answered from knowledgeable staff, Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land announced today.

The Department of State will have a booth in DeVos Place across the from the Chevrolet display on the main show floor. The auto show is open to the public Jan. 31 - Feb. 3.

"I encourage auto show visitors to stop by our booth and see what we're now offering our customers online and at branch offices," Land said. "I also hope people take advantage of this convenient opportunity to sign up to become an organ donor. One person's donation can save or improve the lives of up to 50 people.

"It's wonderful to see the Michigan International Auto Show again bring thousands of people to Grand Rapids to see the new cars and contribute to the success of the downtown and its businesses."

A department representative will be at the booth to answer questions about available services. In addition, Vince and Larry, the crash test dummies, will visit during the weekend to greet visitors.

People joining the Michigan Organ Donor Registry will receive a heart-logo sticker in the mail to put on their driver's license or state identification card. The sticker alerts medical and emergency personnel that the individual has agreed to be an organ donor. Those already on the registry should re-enroll to receive a heart logo sticker if they don't have one.
