OCTOBER 8, 2008
Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land today announced that
the Mobile Branch Office will be in Detroit to serve homeless veterans Oct. 22
and 23.
Hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 22, and 9
a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 23 in the Community Arts Building at the
Michigan State Fairgrounds, 1120 W. State Fair Ave. The visit is in conjunction
with a "stand-down" event organized by Southeast Michigan Veterans Stand Down
Inc.
"I commend the stand-down organizers for their efforts to
help metro-area homeless veterans," Land said. "America's veterans were there
when their country needed them, and so it's an honor to offer assistance now
that they need it."
At the stand-down, the mobile office primarily will assist
people in obtaining identification cards that are needed to access additional
state and federal resources. The office participated in the stand-down in 2006
and 2007.
Services provided by other agencies at the stand-down
include medical care, benefits counseling and how to enroll in housing programs.
The mobile facility is a full-service Secretary of State
branch office and is accessible to people with disabilities. It is hauled
statewide on a 24-foot trailer that has logged more than 125,000 miles since it
first hit the road 10 years ago.
