OCTOBER 23, 2008

Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land reminds residents that all SUPER!Centers as well as select PLUS and traditional branch offices will remain open on Election Day for customers who must conduct urgent business on that day.

Most state government offices will be closed on Tuesday, Nov. 4 because of an agreement with labor unions that makes Election Day an employee holiday. However, Land is keeping several offices open with minimal staffing.

"We recognize that urgent business may require a trip to a Secretary of State branch office on Election Day," Land said. "However, because of limited staffing levels that day,

I encourage everyone who has routine business to visit a branch office prior to Election Day."

Land pointed out that late fees for licenses and registrations expiring Nov. 4 will be waived if customers renew the next day. She also reminded customers that many transactions can be completed online at www.Michigan.gov/sos.

In addition, many branch offices contain Self-Service Stations for quick processing of license plate tab renewals. Many of those branch offices will be closed on Election Day but the Self-Service Station will remain available. Residents will need a renewal notice with personal identification number and a Visa, MasterCard or Discover credit card in order to use the Self-Service Station.

A list of branch offices slated to remain open on Nov. 4 is attached and can also be found on the department Web site. A list of additional branches with Self-Service Stations is also attached.
