OCTOBER 30, 2008
Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land reminds residents that certain offices
will remain open on Tuesday, Nov. 4 for Election Day while all offices are
closed on Tuesday, Nov. 11 for Veterans Day. The Office of the Great Seal will
be closed both days.
Most of state government will be closed on Tuesday, Nov. 4 due to a
negotiated agreement with labor unions that makes Election Day an employee
holiday. Land, however, is accommodating Secretary of State customers who must
conduct business on that day. Land's initiative allows all SUPER!Centers and
more than half of the PLUS offices to remain open with limited staffing levels.
Those with routine business are encouraged to visit a branch office prior to
Election Day. Eight other traditional offices will remain open as well, ensuring
a regional balance in the number of branches operating that day. Hours are 9
a.m. to 5 p.m.
Land reminds customers that several PLUS offices and SUPER!Centers have
24-hour Self-Service Stations for renewing vehicle tabs. Visit the department's
Branch Office Locator
at www.Michigan.gov/sos to find the most convenient location
of a Self-Service Station.
Late fees for licenses and registrations expiring on a state holiday will be
waived if customers renew the next day. Customers can avoid trips to a branch
office by doing business online.
The attached list of offices open on Nov. 4 is online as well.
