MARCH 12, 2009
Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land announced today that
the Grand Rapids Northeast office will be converted into a PLUS office at the
end of the month, bringing expanded hours and convenience to customers.
Preparation for the new services requires the office at 3472 Plainfield Ave.
N.E. to close from Monday, March 23 through Friday, March 27. It will open as
the Northeast Kent County PLUS Office at 9 a.m. Monday, March 30.
"Customers have told us they want more services available when it's
convenient for them," Land said. "Kent County's new PLUS office shows we're
listening by expanding what branches offer and the hours they're open. PLUS
offices offer what customers expect in the 21st century."
Hours for the new office will be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday,
Thursday and Friday, with expanded hours from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
During the renovation period, customers who need services may visit one of
the following area offices:
- Grand Rapids Area SUPER!Center - 3665 28th St. S.E.
- Wyoming - 1056 Rogers Plaza S.W.
- Grand Rapids Downtown - 1 Division Ave. N.
- Sparta - 534 State St.
The offices are open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and
Friday. The Grand Rapids Area SUPER!Center is open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on
Wednesday and 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday. The Grand Rapids Downtown office is
open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, while the Sparta and Wyoming offices
are open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Besides expanded hours, PLUS offices offer other benefits, such as payment by
Discover and MasterCard at the counter, a Self-Service Station for convenient
license plate tab renewals, instant titles, and automated Commercial Driver
License testing stations. The Northeast Kent office will have its CDL testing
station installed shortly after opening.
The Northeast Kent County PLUS Office is one of six offices that Land
selected to be upgraded to PLUS offices in 2009. Also as part of her plan to
expand customer convenience, eight additional offices across the state will
receive Self-Service Stations and all Secretary of State offices now allow
people to buy a copy of their driving record.
Land's efforts to revolutionize the branch office system began in April 2004
and have resulted in the development of 32 PLUS offices and six SUPER!Centers,
including the Grand Rapids Area SUPER!Center. Customer satisfaction has
consistently been high thanks to the modern, convenient services these offices
provide. SUPER!Centers offer the same services as PLUS offices as well as
Saturday hours and other features.
Land reminds residents who have Internet access to check out
Secretary of State online
services at www.Michigan.gov/sos before visiting an
office. For example, license tabs and watercraft registrations can be renewed
online. Browsing the site will help customers determine requirements before they
go to an office.
