MARCH 31, 2009
Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land presented Novi Police
Chief David Molloy with a commemorative license plate today in recognition of
his leadership of a department that has demonstrated outstanding efforts in
improving traffic safety.
"Chief Molloy is a meritorious law enforcement professional who has led the
Novi Police Department to high achievement in traffic safety," Land said. "I
salute the excellence he and his team have shown in this area as part of their
round-the-clock dedication to keeping people safe."
Land visited the Novi Police Department offices to commend Molloy. She gave
him a special plaque featuring a personalized Michigan license plate that reads:
PDCHIEF.
The Novi P.D. works in numerous ways to combat drunken driving. For example,
it developed a chart to track the locations of Operating While Impaired traffic
stops in order to identify and target areas in need of increased enforcement.
Among its many other traffic safety efforts, the department hosts mature driver
workshops, champions commercial vehicle safety and participates in the STOPPED
program to inform parents when their teen driver is pulled over for any reason.
As a result of these efforts, the city of Novi has experienced a decrease in
overall crashes.
For several consecutive years, the Novi P.D. has earned the Award for
Excellence in Traffic Safety. The honor is given by the Michigan Association of
Chiefs of Police, the Michigan Office of Highway Safety Planning and AAA
Michigan to departments that demonstrate a clear and convincing commitment to
traffic safety within their communities.
Molloy has been Novi's police chief since 2005. He began his career as a
patrol officer in 1989 and served on the Michigan State Police Narcotic
Enforcement Team before earning promotions to detective, sergeant and lieutenant
for the department based on his exemplary performance.
