MAY 13, 2009
Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land today announced that
the Mobile Branch Office will be in Clinton County to serve Westphalia- and
Elsie-area customers on May 27 and 28.
For the Elsie visit, hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, May 27, at
Elsie Village Hall, 125 W. Main St. The office will stop in Westphalia from 9
a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday, May 28. It will be next to Westphalia Village Hall,
200 N. Willow St.
"The Mobile Branch Office offers Clinton County and nearby residents a
convenient option to conduct their Department of State business," Land said. "I
hope residents take advantage of this opportunity."
The facility is a full-service Secretary of State office and is accessible to
people with disabilities. It is hauled statewide on a 24-foot trailer that has
logged more than 125,000 miles since it first hit the road in 1997.
At the mobile office, customers have the opportunity to apply for Michigan's
new enhanced driver's license. The enhanced license is a convenient option that
allows people to return to the United States from Canada, Mexico or the
Caribbean by land or sea crossings. Michigan residents who already have a
driver's license and are U.S. citizens can apply by presenting an original or
certified birth certificate, and proof of a Social Security number.
People who have had their name changed also will have to present a document
linking their birth name to their current legal name.
Customers of the mobile office have the ability to pay with a MasterCard or
Discover card as well as buy instant titles or a copy of their driving record.
Land encourages all customers who have Internet access to check out the
department's online services at www.Michigan.gov/sos before
visiting an office. License tabs and watercraft registrations, for example, can
be renewed online. Browsing the site will help customers determine requirements
before they go to an office.
