Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land recently honored Birch
Run's Shiawassee Sports Center for promoting motorcycle safety in Michigan.
Shiawassee Sports Center was recognized during Land's annual motorcycle
safety news conference for promoting safe riding through the Rider's Edge
training program. It is offered at select Harley-Davidson dealerships. Rider's
Edge manager Nathan Poulos accepted the award for Shiawassee Sports Center.
"Rider's Edge programs do an excellent job preparing both new and skilled
riders for situations they may encounter on the road," Land said.
"Harley-Davidson dealers are the only dealerships to offer an approved program
that leads to an endorsement. We are grateful for their efforts to train
Michigan's motorcyclists."
The Department of State administers Michigan's Motorcycle Safety Program,
which oversees a network of 30 public and private training schools. All riders
must take a knowledge test and successfully complete a safety class or skills
test with a third-party testing organization before a motorcycle endorsement is
issued. A safety course is required for 16- and 17-year-olds and adults who fail
the rider skills test twice.

motorcycle safety.
