WHO: Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land, Grand Valley State University President Mark Murray, and members of the GVSU Student Senate.
WHAT: GVSU Young Voter Registration Drive, which coincides with the observance of National Young Voter Awareness Month in March.
WHEN: Thursday, March 18, at 10 a.m.
WHERE: The Kirkhof Student Building lobby on the GVSU campus, 1 Campus Drive, Allendale. The Secretary of State’s Mobile Branch Office was parked outside the building.
WHY: National Young Voter Awareness Month was designated to help reverse the low voter-turnout rate among 18-to-24 year-olds. The GVSU registration drive complements this observance by reaching out to young adults.
Secretary Land and President Murray spoke to GVSU students about the importance of voting, and encouraged them to register at the Secretary of State’s Mobile Branch Office that was on site. Secretary Land and President Murray also assisted students with the registration process and distributed related information. In addition to voter registration, the Mobile Branch Office serves as a full-service Secretary of State Office that allowed customers to conduct other business such as renewing driver’s licenses and vehicle registrations.
