If I am not enrolled in EFT, where do I send the $25 abandoned vehicle fee?

Answer:

When an abandoned vehicle is sold or redeemed, the custodian or law enforcement agency must submit $25 of the $40 dollar abandoned vehicle fee required by law to the state.  If you do not have an EFT account with the Secretary of State's Finance Unit, you can send a check payable to the "State of Michigan - Abandoned Vehicle"  to:

Michigan Department of State - Abandoned Vehicle
Attn:  Cashier Section
7064 Crowner Drive
Lansing, MI  48918

Please write the vehicle's VIN in the memo section of your check.  If you are sending a check for more than one vehicle, you may enclose a separate sheet of paper listing the VINs.

Please do not send a check if the abandoned vehicle was sold at public auction for less than the total costs for towing and storage, police agency or custodian expenses and the $40 abandoned vehicle fee.
