    Renew Your Repair Facility License

Repair facilities have two convenient options for renewing:

    Online Renewal

    Renewal by Mail

    • Have your preprinted repair facility license renewal application and a valid Discover, MasterCard, Visa or electronic check in hand.

    • Follow the screen prompts to complete your application.

    • Pay with Discover, MasterCard, Visa or electronic check.

    • A confirmation e-mail will be sent after you submit your application.

    • If there are any problems with your application, the Licensing Unit will contact you.

    You cannot renew online if:

    1. more than 60 days has passed from the expiration date found in Box 4 of your preprinted renewal application.
    2. your business ownership type has changed.

Note: To avoid paying a late fee renew before the current expiration date found in Box 4 of your preprinted renewal application.

    • Fill out the enclosed license renewal application as instructed. Make any updates necessary. Some updates may require additional documentation.

    • Pay with check or money order made out to "State of Michigan."

    • Return your completed application and payment to: Department of State, Licensing Unit, Lansing, MI 48918

    • Failure to fill out the form correctly or completely may delay or prevent your license renewal.

The Department of State mails a renewal application to all currently licensed repair facilities about 60 days before their current license expiration date.  The license expiration date can be found in Box 4
of your repair facility license renewal application.

If the renewal application has not been received within 30 days of the license expiration date, the repair facility should contact the department's Licensing Unit at licensing@michigan.gov or (888) SOS-MICH (767-6424).  A repair facility license must be renewed annually by making application and paying the renewal fee.

Your new license should arrive in the mail within three weeks after your application has been processed.

When you receive your new repair facility license, post it prominently where customers can see it.
