Visit comes as part of presidential primary debate
events
Secretary of State Ruth Johnson today announced that the
Mobile Office will be at Oakland University to serve customers Nov. 7 and 8.
Johnson encourages students, especially, to take advantage of the visit and
register to vote.
Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 7, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 8. The office
will be at the university's Oakland Center on the main campus. The visit is part
of campus events planned in conjunction with the Nov. 9 Republican presidential
primary debate being held at the university.
"I encourage Oakland students and staff of all political stripes to take
advantage of this convenient option to register to vote so that their voices
will be heard on Election Day," Johnson said. "Next year features a number of
high-profile political campaigns, and voters have the opportunity to influence
our nation's future."
Michigan's presidential primary will be held Feb. 28 along with local
elections in many communities.
The Mobile Office offers all the services available at a traditional branch
office. It is made up of four, easy-to-use carts that are rolled out of a
14-foot-by-7-foot trailer and then assembled as a customer service counter with
all the necessary equipment and data connections.
Customers of the mobile office have the ability to pay with a MasterCard or
Discover card as well as buy instant titles or a copy of their driving record.
The original Secretary of State mobile office was commissioned in July 1997
and logged more than 130,000 miles. When it required significant repairs in
order to continue operation, Secretary of State officials decided to use a more
nimble, less expensive alternative.
