An Introduction to the Michigan Campaign Finance Act
New Page 2
Under the Michigan Campaign Finance Act, Public Act 388 of 1976, the Michigan
Department of State (MDOS) receives campaign finance disclosure statements from
the committees of all individuals who are candidates for state-level offices and
all judicial offices. Political action committees (PACs) which support or
oppose candidates where the candidate's district is in more than one county,
Ballot Question Committees supporting or opposing statewide issues, and all
Political Party Committees (state central, congressional district, county) are
also required to file disclosure reports with the MDOS. The reports are
imaged and made available on the Internet for review by the public. Many
reports are electronically filed and the data for these reports can
queried or downloaded.
For more information about Committee types see Appendix
H of any Michigan Campaign Finance Committee Manual.
