May 16, 2003

Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land announced today that all 173 Secretary of State branch offices will be closed in observance of state holidays during May, July and September. The branch offices will be closed for:

  • Memorial Day on Monday, May 26;
  • Independence Day on Friday, July 4; and
  • Labor Day on Monday, September 1.

Motorists whose driver license or license plates expire over the holiday should renew early. Customers can expect fastest service midmorning, midafternoon, midweek and midmonth. Branch offices are open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. On Wednesdays the majority of offices are open 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. with those in city centers open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Please remember, some of the smaller branch offices do close during the lunch hour.

Motorists renewing license plates can avoid a trip to the branch office by renewing by Internet, mail, fax, and, if eligible, by touch-tone telephone. Easy to follow instructions can be found with the renewal notice. License plate tabs will arrive by mail within seven business days.
