UCC Online - General Information
Why, as an account holder, does UCC Online ask for my credit card information at Checkout?

Registration information does not include billing account. Send an email to UCCSection@michigan.gov with the billing account number and your email address. After connecting your email with the billing account number, you will receive a confirmation email from UCC.

Are there any no-fee services at UCC Online?

Yes. The Debtor Name Quick Search is a free service to help you identify debtor names and variations before requesting an official UCC11 Information Request. Debtors of record may choose to file a UCC5 Information Statement at no additional fee.

How do I pay for filings and searches through UCC Online?

Use your State of Michigan UCC billing account or a credit card. Visa, MasterCard and Discover cards are accepted.

As a UCC Online credit card user, how do I become a billing account holder?

If you frequently file or search UCC documents, contact our Finance Division at 517-322-6710. Account holders are billed monthly.

Can I split payment of fees between my UCC billing account and credit card?

No. Any specific user identification or email address can be designated as either an account or credit card, but not both.

Where do I find the Login for UCC Online?

The Login link is displayed in the gray bar beneath the Secretary of State banner and as a hyperlink in the welcome page text. At the end of your UCC Online session remember to click Logout, located in the gray bar beneath the Secretary of State banner.

Are my user identification and password case sensitive?

Yes. Both user identifications and passwords are case sensitive and must be entered exactly as given during Registration.

What is an acceptable password length?

Passwords must be eight to twelve characters with at least one numeric character, one alpha character and one special character. Special characters are: ~`!@#$%^&*()_-+=<>,.?/.

How long is my password active?

Your password remains active for 120 days. You may change your password at any time by visiting the My Account page. When logging on UCC Online, incorrectly typing the password 3 times deactivates the password.  A deactivated billing account also deactivates your password. To reactivate your password, contact the UCC Office at 517-322-1144.

Why isn't my postal code accepted on the Registration page?

U.S. codes must use a five or nine number format. Postal codes for Canada must use the six Alpha numeric format. Registered users from all other countries must select Other and enter the respective State and Country names. Then, enter the corresponding postal code.

How do I prevent losing work I have data entered before I go through Checkout?

Close the browser or Logout and the data will be saved automatically for seven days. When there is no data entry for more than 30 minutes, the data entered in this session will be saved for seven days and the session will automatically end due to inactivity.

Can I delete information accidentally entered?

Yes. If you are still on the same page, simply make the changes. If not, the wizard will give you an opportunity to edit the incorrect information from the Verification page.

How do I get off this data entry screen?

The back arrow on the browser does not reliably go back to the previous screen. If you are trapped on a data entry screen, follow these steps: Enter a random letter or word in all remaining fields. Select the "Enter Collateral" button. You will have an opportunity to edit or delete this information later, from the Verification page.

How do I know that I logged out of UCC Online?

The message "You are successfully logged out" will appear near the top of the welcome page. Closing the browser automatically logs you out and saves any shopping cart items for seven days.

As a submitter living in another country, can I use UCC Online?

Yes. Locations outside the U.S. or Canada should use the pick arrow to select Other for State and Country, during registration. Enter the specific State and Country names in the adjacent boxes.

Why won't UCC Online allow me to go through Checkout?

Make sure the "cookies" option for your browser is selected. UCC Online needs to recognize you specifically. Cookies allow recognition so that you can access your job information through Order History after Checkout.

After checking out, how do I receive the information?

Documents are delivered through Order History as Adobe Acrobat (PDF) files. An email will inform you when your order is ready for viewing. You must be logged in to retrieve the files but can log out after Checkout and retrieve the files later. Files are available in Order History for 30 days.

When will I receive my search results after Checkout?

Time frame varies according to result file size and number of current users. The system may take upwards of an hour, to prepare the documents. You will be notified by e-mail when your documents are ready.

How long are my search documents available for retrieval?

Search results are retrievable for thirty calendar days. These stored documents will not be updated to reflect subsequent filings, so results are only current through the search certification date.

Why are some search results sent later under separate cover?

There are two possible reasons. Some UCC document images are not available electronically. To fill the search request, microfilm documents are copied on paper. Other document image files exceed 150 MB and are too big to be retrieved from Order History. In either situation, copies of the documents will be mailed to the user's selected mailing address no later than the next workday.

How do I match my Copy Exception Report with the correct search?

Use the job number (Uxxxxxxxx-xxxx) and debtor name to match copies sent under separate cover with the search results sent over the web.
