Charter Boat License

Please consult the Charter Boat Program website for more information.

Required State License(s):

Licensed with the Department of Natural Resources, Law Enforcement Division if the vessel operates on inland lakes, regardless of number of passengers, or if the vessel carries 6 passengers or less (not including captain and paid crew members); (517) 373-1230.  

Required to have a ship's pilot license with the Department of Natural Resources or Coast Guard, if the vessel is operated by other than the renter.

Other License(s):

If the vessel carries 7 or more passengers (excluding captain and paid crew members) and operates on the Great Lakes, should be licensed with the Coast Guard. Contact the Coast Guard at Regional Exam Center, telephone: (419) 418-6010.
