Required State License(s):

Ambulances should be registered with the Department of Labor & Economic Growth. This includes "air ambulances" (helicopters, planes) and water craft transporting persons for emergency care. Contact Department of Labor & Economic Growth, Health Services; (517) 241-3026.

Non-emergency vehicles (such as vans taking patients to doctors appointments, etc.) may register with the Department of Labor & Economic Growth, but it is not required if they will not be transporting emergency patients. The company should write a letter to the Michigan Department of Labor & Economic Growth expressing their interest in registering their vehicles.  

Non-emergency care vehicles (such as automobiles, vans or cutaway style vehicles taking patients to doctor appointments, etc. in exchange for compensation) must obtain a business license from the Michigan Department of Transportation, Multi-Modal Transportation Services Bureau, but it is NOT REQUIRED if transporting EMERGENCY care patients (See ambulances transporting persons for emergency care above).
