Ocularist

Required State License(s):

All persons who design and fabricate ocular prosthetic appliances; fit ocular prosthetic appliances; or perform the necessary procedures to provide an ocular prosthetic service for patients in an ocularist's office or laboratory are required to be certified.  Apprentices are also required to be certified.  Contact the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs, Bureau of Commercial Services at (517) 241-9288 for licensure information or visit our website at www.michigan.gov/ocularists.

(Licensed optometrists and physicians are exempt from the certification).

Further Information:

Ocular prosthetic appliances include stock and custom prosthetic eyes, therapeutic scleral shells, and therapeutic painted iris shells, and external and orbital facial prosthetics.
