To install fire protection sprinkler systems for private residences, mechanical permits may be required with the local enforcing agency.

To install sprinklers or fire alarms for schools, hospitals, hotels, prisons or similar type buildings, certification is required with the Department of Labor & Economic Growth, Bureau of Construction Codes & Fire Safety.  Contact the Electrical Division at (517) 241-9320 and the Mechanical Division at (517) 241-9325.

Lawn Sprinkler Installation -- None. However, a licensed plumber is required to hook up the plumbing to the main water supply.

Underground Sprinkler System, Installation -- When an underground sprinkling system is connected to the public water supply system a plumbing license is required to install the backflow preventer. Contact the Department of Labor & Economic Growth, Bureau of Construction Codes, Plumbing Division at (517) 241-9330.
