Business Transfers/Acquisitions or Change of Business Entity Type

If you change the entity type of your existing business (e.g. from sole proprietor to partnership, or from corporation to a sole proprietorship or partnership) or acquired all or any part of the assets, organization, trade or business of an existing business having employees in Michigan you must notify the Unemployment Insurance Agency (UIA) of the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA). (You cannot continue to use the employer account number of a prior owner; you must register for your own account number.)

To notify UIA, complete the Register for Taxes (eRegistration) application using the directions that follow:

• In One Stop My Workspace page...
  • Click Add a Task
  • Choose the task Business Transfers/Acquisitions or Change of Business Entity Type to add this task to your task list in your My Workspace page
  • Click on the task Business Transfers/Acquisitions or Change of Business Entity Type to initiate the task in One Stop
  • Follow the directions presented by UIA
