Licensing Information:

Carpet Cleaning: There is no state license required for carpet cleaning.

However, many local governments, cities, townships, etc. do license these services. Contact your local city or township clerks office.

Assure that the wastwater is properly disposed. COntact the local sewer authority if the wastewater destination is a city sewer to assure compliance with their ordinances.  Otherwise, call the Department of Environmental Quality regarding other carpet cleaning wastewater disposal options, such as discharges to ground at (800) 662-9278.


A sales tax liccense may be required if any products are sold to the public. You may call the Michigan Department of Treasury at (517) 636-4660 and request a 518 form.

Janitorial Service: There is not state license required for cleaning/janitorial services.

However, many local governments, cities, townships, etc.do license these services. Contact your local city or township clerks office.
