Licensing Information: Business/Management/Marketing/Computer Consulting Service: No state license is required for management, marketing, labor relations, environmental, computer consulting services.
When selling prepackaged software a sales tax license is required. You may call the Michigan Department of Treasury at (517) 636-4660 and request a 518 form. When providing engineering consulting services, you are to be licensed as a Professional Engineer. Contact the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs, Board of Professional Engineers; (517) 241-9253. When advising about investments, you are to be licensed as an Investment Advisor. Contact the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs, Office of Financial and Insurance Services; (517) 241-6350. If providing investigational, educational, and technical environmental health information, you are required to be licensed with the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs, Health Services; (517) 335-0918. Training Programs: Anyone providing training programs intended to prepare individuals for a type of job (i.e.., truck driving school, nanny school, bartender school) should be licensed as a vocational school with the Department of Education, Proprietary School Unit; (517) 373-6774. No license is required for instructors, but they should be approved with the Department of Education. This is usually accomplished by supplying the Department with personnel qualification forms. Persons with 2 years or more experience or a degree in the appropriate field are generally approved. Those providing non-vocational training (i.e.., management skills, stress reduction) are not required to be licensed with the state.
