When money is exchanged for selling the goods and products, a sales tax license is required. You may call the Michigan Department of Treasury at (517) 636-4660 and request a 518 form.

Personalized sales tax returns and a payment schedule will be mailed to you within four to six weeks after the registration has been processed. If you have questions about this process, please call the Michigan Department of Treasury at (517) 636-4730.

Manufacturing Sales Representative/Occupational Definition: Sell products to wholesalers or other customers on a commission basis. They call on customers, demonstrate their products, point out salable features, answer questions, and forward orders to the manufacturer.

Retail Sales Manager/Occupational Definition: Are responsible for planning some or all of the sales activities of a retail store or department. They plan advertising campaigns and sales promotions and hire, train, and evaluate sale workers. Sales managers also plan work schedules and order merchandise.

No state license is required if the business is owned by another party. But, if the retail sales manager owns the business a license is required.
