    Drug Rehabilitation Counseling

    Required State License(s):  

    All guidance teachers and school counselors should be certified to counsel at the grade levels of their counseling assignment with the Department of Education; (517) 373-3324.  

    Marriage and Family Therapists must be licensed with the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs, Bureau of Health Professions, Board of Marriage and Family Therapy; (517) 335-0918. www.michigan.gov/healthlicense

    Insurance counselors (anyone engaged in the business of auditing or abstracting policies of insurance or annuities or giving advice with respect to the benefits promised) should be licensed with the Office of Financial and Insurance Regulation; (517) 373-0234.  

    Substance use disorder counselors, providing services to publicly funded clients, are required to be certified through the Michigan Certification Board for Addiction Professionals (MCBAP) in addition to any license that may be held. The Michigan Certification Board for Addiction Professionals is a member of the International Certification and Reciprocity Consortium (IC&RC) and can be contacted at (517) 347-0891 or www.mcbab.com.

    Any counselors not licensed under another law are required to be licensed with the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs, Bureau of Health Professions, Board of Counseling; (517) 335-0918. www.michigan.gov/healthlicense
