    On August 14, 1995, the Gongwer stated, "the Attorney General has ruled (Opinion No. 6864) that an interior or building designer who is not regulated by the state should have a license if they engage in work relating to plumbing, mechanical contracting or electrical contracting.

    The Occupational Code specifically exempts interior designers and building designers from regulation. The Attorney General said, "it would be absurd to permit them to engage in other practices which are regulated unless they first meet the education, experience and other requirements."

    The Attorney General also ruled that a person affected by such unlicensed work may seek an injunction to halt it.

    Industrial Design -- Combine technical knowledge with artistic talent to improve the form and design of products and their packaging and trademarks.

    Other Possible License(s):

    If only services are rendered there are no state licenses required. When a product is sold, a sales tax license is required with the Department of Treasury, Sales, use and Withholding Tax Division; (517) 636-4660.
