Ski lifts, rope tows, chair lifts and aerial tramways located at ski areas in Michigan are required to obtain an annual permit with the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs, Bureau of Commercial Services at (517) 241-9288 or visit our website at www.michigan.gov/ski

All equipment requires an annual safety inspection by the Department.  The inspections are performed by field staff of the Enforcement Division:  (517) 241-9273.

Equipment at ski areas not used for skiers could be required to hold a permit as a carnival ride pursuant to the Carnival-Amusement Safety Act: (517) 241-9288 www.Michigan.gov/carnival or www.Michigan.gov/amusement
