Amusement Parks -- Carnival/Amusement permits. Contact the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs, Corporations, Securities, and Commercial Licensing Bureau at (517) 241-9288 for licensure information or visit our website at www.michigan.gov/commerciallicensing.


If water is involved (water slides, pools, etc), contact the Department of Environmental Quality; (517) 335-9214.

When food products are prepared on the premises, a Food Service license is required with the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development; (517) 373-1060.

A sales tax license may be required when products are sold to the public. You may call the Michigan Department of Treasury at (517) 636-4660.

Personalized sales tax returns and a payment schedule will be mailed within four to six weeks after the registration has been processed. For further information about this process, please call the Michigan Department of Treasury at (517) 636-4730.

Pools/Wading Pools -- Public swimming pools, spa pools, whirlpools, wading pools, water slides, etc. a license is required with the Department of Environmental Quality; (517) 335-9214. Permits are required to construct and to operate.

Contact the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development about pool cleaning chemicals, Pesticide and Plant Pest Management Division; (517) 373-1087.

A license as a residential builder or maintenance and alteration contractor in swimming pool installation is required when engaging in swimming pool installation on a residential or combination residential and commercial structure.  Contact the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs, Corporations, Securities, and Commercial Licensing Bureau at (517) 241-9288 for licensure information or visit our website at www.michigan.gov/commerciallicensing.
