    Winery- Licensing Information

    Required State License(s): A winery license is issued to a business located in Michigan to manufacture wine and sell, at wholesale or retail.  A license is issued with the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs, Liquor Control Commission; (517)322-1420.

    A small winery means manufacturing or bottling not more than 50,000 gallons of wine in 1 calendar year.

    A federal basic permit is required. A "Wine Producers and Blenders Permit" is issued by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (BATF): Detroit (313) 393-6000 or Grand Rapids (616) 301-6100.

    Tasting Room License - Licensed wineries may apply for a tasting room license located off the licensed premises.
