Best Practices

• Introduction

BMPs are land management practices designed to minimize and control pollutant runoff from entering our rivers, lakes and wetland to improve water quality. The practices may be structural, vegetative, or operational in nature.

Construction and maintenance projects related to highway and transportation facilities can have a significant impact on runoff pollution. MDOT implements BMPs to minimize soil erosion, sedimentation and pollution runoff.
