Subject: Michigan SBT e-file Update

Michigan is no longer accepting SBT e-file Fed/State returns submitted using the IRS Modernized e-File (MeF) program. Michigan has issued acknowledgments for all Michigan SBT Fed/State returns submitted via the MeF program through noon on December 19, 2008.

Beginning in January 2009 Michigan will use the IRS MeF system for the new Michigan Business Tax e-file program (MBT e-file). When MBT e-file goes live any SBT e-file returns submitted using the IRS MeF system after December 19, 2008 will receive a "Rejected" acknowledgment. The acknowledgment will not be available until MBT e-file goes live in January 2009.

SBT Fed/State returns that need to be filed after December 18, 2008 will need to be filed in one of the following ways:

  1. E-filed using the SBT Direct e-file program, if supported by your software.
  2. Mailed to the address listed in the Single Business Tax Instruction Booklet, or
  3. For previously rejected Fed/State returns only, faxed to the Alternative Filing Office's attention at 517-636-4378.

Thank you for your support of Michigan's SBT e-file program.

Subject: MBT Forms Webcasts Now Available

The Department of Treasury is proud to announce the addition of MBT Forms Webcasts (http://www.michigan.gov/taxes/0,1607,7-238-46621_52337-204775--,00.html) on the MBT Web site. These presentations are a great resource for those who are seeking knowledge and guidance on the recently released MBT DRAFT forms. There are over 20 presentations in total, and feature form-by-form analysis of each of the more than 30 MBT-related forms.

These Webcasts are one of the many resources that are available on the MBT Web site (http://www.michigan.gov/mbt), including a large number of FAQs and an MBT Estimator tool.
