Subject: Michigan SBT e-file Update
Michigan is no longer accepting SBT e-file Fed/State returns submitted using the IRS Modernized e-File (MeF) program. Michigan has issued acknowledgments for all Michigan SBT Fed/State returns submitted via the MeF program through noon on December 19, 2008.
Beginning in January 2009 Michigan will use the IRS MeF system for the new Michigan Business Tax e-file program (MBT e-file). When MBT e-file goes live any SBT e-file returns submitted using the IRS MeF system after December 19, 2008 will receive a "Rejected" acknowledgment. The acknowledgment will not be available until MBT e-file goes live in January 2009.
SBT Fed/State returns that need to be filed after December 18, 2008 will need to be filed in one of the following ways:
- E-filed using the SBT Direct e-file program, if supported by your software.
- Mailed to the address listed in the Single Business Tax Instruction Booklet, or
- For previously rejected Fed/State returns only, faxed to the Alternative Filing Office's attention at 517-636-4378.
Thank you for your support of Michigan's SBT e-file program.
