The State of Michigan is working with software developers to encourage taxpayers
to e-file their individual income tax returns. E-filing is the fastest, easiest,
most convenient way to your refund, and choosing e-file helps save Michigan
taxpayer dollars. E-filed returns cost 83% less to process than paper returns.
Information about specific software offers will be published as it becomes
available for tax year 2010. Please check back for updates.
As a convenience to taxpayers, Treasury is providing links to software company Web sites. Some companies have free offers - do you qualify? Visit their Web sites for more information on how to e-file using their products.
Please allow 14 days before checking the status of your
e-filed return using the Michigan Department of Treasury's "Check My Income Tax Info" Web site.
State-Only e-file lets you submit your Michigan individual income tax return separately from your federal return. You can even e-file your homestead property tax credit and/or home heating credit claims separately. If you e-file your Michigan tax return alone, be sure to calculate your federal return first before completing and e-filing your Michigan return.
You may want to choose State-Only e-file if you:
- Already filed your federal return (e-filed or paper filed).
- Are not required to file a federal return.
- Only need to file a Michigan property tax
credit and/or home heating credit claim.
If you already filed your federal return, and now want to e-file your Michigan return, do not e-file another copy of the federal return. Doing so will result in a rejection from the IRS and Michigan will not receive your State return information.
