Bottle Deposit and Reverse Vending Machine InformationBottle Deposit The Michigan Beverage Container Act, commonly referred to as the Bottle Bill, was implemented in December 1978 with the purpose to reduce roadside litter, clean up the environment, and conserve energy and natural resources. The following is provided as a result of the Bottle Bill legislation: Reverse Vending Machine Legislation Public Acts 386, 387, 388, and 389 of 2008 were enacted collectively to prevent the fraudulent redemption of non-returnable beverage containers in the state of Michigan. The legislation provides initial funding to pay for the installation of new vision technology in reverse vending machines located in designated border counties where fraudulent redemption activity is more likely to occur. Each beverage dealer that operates a reverse vending machine located in any of the following counties must submit a completed Form 4708 on or before February 1 , 2010:
