City of Detroit Individual Income Tax Administration
As part of a partnership that will help the city to run more efficiently, the State Treasury Department will begin to process City of Detroit Individual Income tax returns in January 2016 for the 2015 tax year.
The transition is part of Detroit’s post-bankruptcy management plan and affects any residents or non-residents subject to City of Detroit Individual Income Tax.
The new partnership will benefit city taxpayers by allowing them to e-file their City of Detroit Individual Income Tax return along with their State of Michigan Income Tax return. The combined e-filing of city and state returns will provide the following benefits:
- Improve accuracy of the returns
- Provide faster refunds
- Increase taxpayer e-file options
- Allow access to Treasury's online services to confirm receipt of a return and the date a refund is issued
